Moving and July 4th Weekend

Well, we moved. It wasn't easy, but we moved on the coolest July day I've ever felt, so that was a real plus. 71 degrees. Sounds like heaven compared to the 98 degrees that it was today. The trip out to Bear Creek went fairly well too. We only had to stop once for about an hour, but we got food, gas, and potty breaks all at the same time. The last hour and a half was a little bit of a challenge with the kiddos, but all in all it was way better than our return trip to Ohio that took 11 hours. :)

Update on the house hunt. We almost had a house in Scranton, but the guy that was selling backed out of the agreement. It's ok though, God must have different plans. We are still looking and we'll see what God brings us. Our house in Ohio has not sold yet, but we have had some people looking, so that is good as well. Continue to pray for us as we adjust to being away from everything familiar. Pray especially for Little Billy. Not only is everything different: surroundings, friends, church, but his Daddy has to travel a lot more than we are used to, and he has been asking where Daddy is and why he is not here. Big Billy loves his job, he gets to speak at camps throughout the summer, but of course that takes him away from us frequently which is hard for him as well. He is a family man, and it is hard for him to be away.

I will be registering for grad courses in the fall, so that will be new for me. It will be weird to take classes again. I'm used to talking to 2 year olds. It will be good to start using my brain again. :)

We are moving back to the Northeast! It is bittersweet, but it is so evident that it is what God wants. A few things took place that made us evaluate our purpose and effectiveness in our present ministry. It seemed very evident that there was no possibility of us moving forward, so we stepped out in faith, with no prospects as far as a job goes, and in a matter of 3 weeks, God opened doors and Billy starts his new job tomorrow. He will be working at Baptist Bible College in the Admissions department. We are both really excited about it, since we both went to school there and now we are able to continue our schooling at no cost. So amazing. So we are definitely excited for our new adventure, but we will miss so much our family, our friends, our church, our neighbors, our town, our street, and the list goes on. There have been so many wonderful things about the past 5 years I can't even begin to list everything. God has blessed us with 5 great years being so close to my family. I will miss them soooo much, but I am glad we will be close to Billy's parents. My kids need their grandparents, at least one set at a time. We are going to miss our church family as well. We know everyone so well they really are FAMILY. I will try my best to keep this blog updated for those of you who don't have facebook. Changes are never easy, but sometimes it makes it easier when you can keep up with what your friends are doing.

Long time no blog

Wow. It's been a long time since we've updated this. I just had someone look at it recently so I decided i should update at least a little. Although facebook has pretty much taken over, since I usually just have pictures and don't normally have that much to write about.

We just finished our Easter weekend with family. We all had a great time. We got family pictures which was great because everyone looked great, even Ryan. She smiles all the time, it's so nice. What a great baby!

Little Billy is almost 2 1/2 now. He has lost his baby face... :( But he is still cute and very funny and extremely smart. He knows his ABC's and is now starting to learn how to tell time. He can pitch a baseball like nobody his age, and knows the names of every pitch imaginable. I hear him talking about them sometimes. Curveball, fastball, sinker, slider...

Ryan will be four months old next week. Time is flying by. She is a real sweetheart. Loves her mommy but loves her daddy even more. Still having a rough time with anyone else holding her besides us. She'll get there though. At least she loves us!

So, I figured it was about time for a new post, since Little Billy is 16 months old now. :) I thought you might enjoy a few of my favorite pics. What I really need to do is post a video of all the words Billy can say. His vocabulary is so huge I don't even know how many words he can say. Too many to count. He is such a social butterfly too. Well, it's been a busy summer already, and it's not even July yet! I just thought I should post some pictures of what we've been up to. They are kind of in reverse order, but I'm not about to edit and change it all. Enjoy them anyway.

Today marks 2 milestones in the Mulligan Family. First Billy turned 6 months old today and second Pop turned the big 50! Even though 49 1/2 years separates these two William Mulligans they have so much in common.

Ahh, the cuteness overtakes me. Another fun day with Little Billy. He is rolling over quite a bit now, and we have to keep a close eye on him. I tried to get a picture of his two new teeth, but he likes to hide them. He will be 6 months old on Tuesday. It's crazy he's that old already. He's getting to be such a big boy. He sleeps really well for us--about 10 hours a night. Praise the Lord! Not as good with naps since he doesn't like to miss anything that is going on. He is very active every minute of the day, so that is probably why he sleeps so well. Daddy was teaching him how to beat on the drum today. He did a good job. We'll have to get a video of that.

I went to get Billy from his nap, and he had wiggled all the way up against one end of the crib sideways. He is quite a character.

We decided to take the little man to the library today. Not only was it his first trip to the book house, but it was the first day the new library was open! Our Little Boy is Growing Up

Ok, well, he's only two months, but it seems like we've known each other longer than that. He is smiling now, and cooing a lot. He has little conversations with me and Daddy all the time. And the last couple of days he's been drooling, blowing bubbles and eating his hand a lot, so I'm thinking he might be teething. That's really just a guess though, cuz it's a little early for that. But our Little Billy is so much ahead of the game on everything, that he may be teething early as well. We're not proud or anything. :) We were late for work this morning because he slept through the night! Well, technically through the night. He woke up at 4am, but then he didn't wake up again till 8am. So I didn't have my alarm set because he usually wakes up again. BUt I'm not complaining. I'm proud of our little man. HE's been doing pretty well with us at work. He hasn't been fussy hardly at all, and it's getting easier to put him down for a nap. He doesn't cry as much, and sometimes he'll just look at the bears on the side of the crib and drool, blow bubbles or eat his hand. So content... We were talking to him yesterday and something Billy said made him make a sound like a giggle. So, we can hardly wait till he really laughs out loud. He is so cute we just can't handle it. I'll have Billy post some pictures soon.

What? A Mulligan on time?! Wow! He actually came on his due date. Well, it has been a long couple of days. We came into the hospital on Monday morning and found out that Julie was in "early labor." Around 1:15 p.m. they sent us home. So we went to lunch, then my allergy doctor's appointment, then we went home where Julie (around 4:15 p.m.) let out a bellow. I calmly said to her, "Well, let's wait till you have four or five more of those before we head back...." and in mid-sentence she let out another one. So I said, "I'll take the dog out and we will go." And back we went with stronger contractions and the hope of at least 1 cm of dialation. When we arrived, they hooked her back up to the monitors and her contractions were off the charts, but still very little dilation. They decided to admit her with the hopes of breaking her water. After many painful contractions at 8:30 they finally did break it.

When they did this, the doctor noticed that the baby had leaked a little of his first bowel movement and the baby's heart rate went from 140 to 125 to 112 to 101 to 99 to 86 to 77. These were the longest moments of my life...or so I thought. The doctor ordered a drug that would temporarily stop the contractions so the baby's heart rate could recover. It worked! After they saw that the baby was stable, they gave Julie a drug to start the contractions again to see if the baby could handle the stress of labor.

One of the major problems the doctor and nurses kept running into was how high the baby's head was from Julie's cervix. The contractions were getting stronger and stronger and talk about a c-section was brewing among the hospital staff. We decided it would be best for Julie at this point to get an epidural. The anesthesiologists said that the only way I would be allowed in the operating room, should Julie have a c-section, was if she had the epidural. So I left my wife who was on the brink of nausea and exhaustion and 20 minutes later I came back to a new woman. The nurses said it would be best for her to sleep. At 1:30 a.m. we hit the sack. At 3:00 a.m. we awoke to hear that Julie was 3.5 cm and progressing well.

At that point I could not sleep. I was wired for sound. Julie decided she would go back to sleep and I went for a walk in the lobby where I found Julie's parents. I sat down and watched TV with them for a while. I was interrupted by the nurse telling us that the baby's heart rate was not responding well to labor and they would have to do an emergency c-section.

So I got all scrubbed up and walked my wife to the O.R. When we got there, I was told to sit outside and wait until I was called in. When I finally got in, they were ready to begin. I was told I could watch If I wanted...I declined. I sat by my wife's head and waited for them to tell me when the moment of birth would occur. When they gave me the go sign I peeked over the curtain and saw my boy! They pulled him out and were surprised! His umbilical chord was short...very short-- so much so that he could not reach the birth canal. This was the reason for the painful labor contractions which were off the charts. This was the reason Julie was not dilating, and this was the reason for the bowel movement.

After they got him out and cut the chord I was able to hold him and introduce him to his mommy. But I was about to live the longest moments of my life. As they prepared to end the surgery for Julie I could see the looks of frustration on the doctors' faces. Here I was holding my newborn son and having no idea what was going to happen to my wife. They worked on her for over 45 min. My heart was racing. The baby was getting heavier in my hands. They called me around the curtain and showed me the issue. Julie had some bleeding that they were trying to get under control. Finally they stitched her up. I breathed a huge sigh of relief, and after awhile she finally got to hold her son. 6 lbs 5 oz 20 in long ... William John Mulligan IV

So, I did something hilarious last night. I did not even think it was possible, but I did it! After the Indian's game was over my wife was asleep and I developed a hypothesis (educated guess.) My line of thinking was...my wife and my son are not the same person...the baby sometimes sleeps when my wife is awake...can I wake the baby with out waking my wife?! So I slowly crept up on my sleeping wife, got very close to her belly and softly said "Billy Boy." And a little foot kicked my wife and woke her up! I am a genius. But I guess you can't be a genius if you have to ask your wife how to spell it.

So incredibly busy. Wow! Is life supposed to go so fast? It seems like just yesterday we had 6 months until our baby boy would be here, and now we have 30 days! There is still a lot to be done, but a lot has been done so far. I get distracted easily. First it was the hot water heater...then the kitchen...then the start of the EAGLES season...then the kitchen...then the FIGHTIN' PHILLIES got hot...then the kitchen...then the end of the eagles season...then the kitchen. Needless to say I'm still working on the kitchen, but my heart is torn. Isn't it funny how easily distracted we can become. I have so much to be thankful for.

1. A God who loves me even though I am unlovable.
2. HEAVEN!
3. A wife who is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
4. A BABY on the way!
5. Two sets of loving parents who always want the best for us.
6. Friends who will always be there for us.
7. A church family that supports us.
8. A house.
9. The Fightin' Phillies in the playoffs.

The first thing my wife said when she saw this list was, " You could only think of 9 things!" I'm shallow, so sue me. But even with these 9 things I have a constant dull ache in my back that is the Philadelphia Eagles. Many of you do not understand the relationship between the Philadelphia Fan and the Eagles. Watch "Invincible" and you will get a taste. It's like the eagles are a friend that I grew up with who has now gotten in trouble with the law, started doing drugs, knocking over gas stations...and I now find myself sitting in the prison visitor's area looking at this friend, and wondering, "WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!"

All that aside, life is good and here are some pictures to prove it.

My Hero

My husband is the greatest and I think the whole world should know. He has probably had the roughest week, but he accomplished sooo much despite all the crazy circumstances. I don' t have pictures of what all he did yet, but I will get them for you. The week started with what we thought was a gas leak. We ended up evacuating our house early Sunday morning, missing church, and then finding a foot of water in our crawl space. At first we thought it had come from the flooding earlier that week, but a day later, when Billy inspected it further, we discovered it was because our hot water tank had exploded, and was dispelling water everywhere. Fortunately, our furnace still works, which saved us a bunch of $$$. Not only did Billy have to get a new water heater, at every turn there was a new problem to solve because of the size of our crawl space compared to the size of water heaters, along with building codes that needed to be updated, and the price of install was ridiculous. So, Billy being the genius that he is, was able to figure out all those problems, buy a new water heater, cut pipes, repair wires, install new equipment to meet code requirements, and finish the job virtually by himself. I do need to mention however, two young men that were instrumental in helping my husband get the heavy awkward water heater down a 19" wide hole into a 6' deep crawl space, so that my husband did not die. To them I am very grateful. Their names are Matt and Kyle. Thanks guys!

I just wanted to let everyone know how proud I am of this man, and the perseverence I saw in him this week was amazing. I am thanking God so much that I am married to someone like him, and that he will be such a good example to his son, let alone everyone else he comes in contact with. What an example of dedication and hard work, sticking to a job until it is fully completed.

West Virginia!

So we went to West Virginia last week with the Sr. Highers in the Youth Group. We had a great time and the kids learned a lot. We were really proud of them. They all participated in each one of the challenges, whether it was on the high ropes course, rappelling down the side of a cliff, or white water rafting down the New River. They really looked out for each other during the trip, not just during the challenges, but also helping each other through personal struggles in their walk with the Lord. It was great to see God growing them closer to Him and closer to each other. We are proud of each and every one of them, and know that God has great plans for them. Here are a few pics from the week.

More Renovations

So, we were so pumped about getting the nursery ready, that we decided to paint our bathroom, and we started doing major work on our dining room. Special thanks to Luke and Hannah who spent an entire day with us doing these projects. We started the front room, just by painting it, and it looked better just with a different color. But of course we couldn't stop there, we had to keep going. So far we have taken out the built in bookshelf that wasn't really that attractive in the first place, which gave us more space in the room; Billy also took up the carpet on the stairs, and they look pretty good and are in decent shape. We decided that we will look for a remnant carpet to lay down, so we don't have to have the red carpet anymore. :) So, here are some pics of our work in progress. It might take a while longer, only because the next 4 weekends are a little busy for us. After that it should lighten up some and we can concentrate on the project again.

We are so excited! We found out that our baby is a boy, and no one is more excited than Poppy Mulligan (my dad). He already has the rights to be his agent, and is bringing the paperwork this weekend.
He is a very active baby and is 15 oz right now. Julie and I were watching a movie last night, and I was able to feel him move. We have a feeling that he is goi ng to be a BIG BOY just like his dad (9.5 lbs 22.5 inches)...poor Julie. Please keep praying for us we are so excited to see what God has instore for us in this new adventure.

Sorry! We have not posted in forever. We have been soooooo busy. No excuses though, our public awaits. Here is the transcript of the press conference and the latest pics of the future superstar.

Dad: We will now begin the press conference. I have a brief opening statement and then will be taking questions. My wife and I are extremely sorry that we have not kept you in the loop of the happenings in our lives. We are both well and the baby is well..as...well. So, I will begin answering questions... Yes, Barbara Walters.

Barbara: Can you teww us how far awong Juwie is in her pregnancy?

Dad: 14 weeks and the baby is about 4 inches long. Yes, Harry Caray.

Harry: HOLY COW! IsItABoy...or a Girl!?! And are ya gonna find out?

Dad: We do not know yet, but yes we are planning on finding out. Most experts say we will not know until the 20th week. Yes, Howard Cosell.

Howard: With the emergence of the modern athlete and the father son duo of agent and player and the possibility of having a boy and therefore with the father being William John Mulligan the third, is it possible Mr. Mulligan that we could see a William John Mulligan the fourth, and what would be the likelihood of the future superstar excelling at the sport of Golf?

Dad: If it is a boy we will have a fourth, and yes we have kicked around the golf idea with him having both Mulligan and 4 in his name. Last question. Yes John Madden...

Madden: What about naming the kid Brett Favre. Doesn't matter if its a boy or a girl. It's a great name for a girl too, and I'll bet she'll throw a mean football. I love boys names for girls!

Dad: Well John, we do have a name picked out and it is usually a boys name, but not Brett. It's Ryan Elizabeth Mulligan. That is all. We will leave with Pictures to publish... in your various... publishings...anyway that's it.

Wow what a crazy month! After recovering from hernia surgery (thank you for your prayers), I'm back to teaching, preaching and coaching rugby. We have so much good news to share with all of you. First of all we are quitting our paper route (praise God.) Secondly, dad and mom bought me a drum set so I can begin to give lessons...

It's a Pearl Export EXR and it is sweet! I love it! Thanks mom and dad! That's pretty exciting but nothing compared to this...

Julie is Pregnant! We had an ultrasound done, heard our baby's heart beat and found out that she is due some time in November. We are so excited! Please be praying for Julie as she has been both sick and tired. God is awesome! I'm gonna be a daddy :)

Billy found himself in the hospital last weekend--not because he had Peter Pan peanut butter, but because he tried to push a van out of the snow and aggravated his hernia. They had to cut out the only fat on his body.

A good time was had by all. A couple days before the party, Billy found out that he won 25 free burritos from Chipotle. So we picked them up right before the party. Everyone was excited to get one! How did Billy do that, you ask? Well, I don't know. He always wins when there is something to be had. For instance, the ipod shuffle, free dinner for 10 at Yours truly, a guitar, concert tickets, and the list goes on. Let's just say he's one lucky guy. :)

Kitchen dreams and Barnyard

Today my Dad came over to help me dream about the possibilities of what my kitchen might be able to look like. It was good. Most of the day was spent planning, pricing, and learning about what materials would work best to make our 1928 plaster walls look like new without re-doing everything and starting all over. We learned a lot and came up with a few different options as solutions. I'm excited about it. I can't guarantee it'll be a fast project, but it'll be fun working with my Dad. We used to do projects together around the house all the time. So it'll be like old times. :)
Well, we just sat down to watch the movie "Barnyard". Hopefully it won't be as stupid as it looked like on the previews. But Billy is already laughing at it. So at least it'll amuse one of us. Tugger is watching too.

Oh My Goodness, A New Blog

So, you know how we said we promised we'd keep this up? Yeah. well.... obviously we are having a consistency problem. Sorry. So of course I don't have a picture to post, which disappoints me, but hopefully you're just glad we are still alive. Yes, we are still alive, but today we are extra tired. This morning was the first day of our paper route. Yes, that's right--a paper route. It's funny, but I actually like doing it. Of course, at this moment, my eyes are having trouble staying open. But Billy and I are doing the route together so that makes it fun. If you think about us, you can pray for us. :) This helps meet our needs financially, since my hours were cut at the first of the year. So, we are hanging in there. Not much else is going on, except getting ready for our missions trip to Germany. That will take up a lot of our time as well. Oh, and if any of you that live close to us want to earn extra money while we are away on that trip, we will let you do our paper route while we are gone. :) Also, my sister just returned from Mexico on her missions trip, so tonight we are getting together to hear all about that. So, I will try to keep you updated so every time you look on our site you aren't disappointed!

We have been enjoying life in the recent past, in case that is not evident in the pictures. Our pets have been enjoying life as well, except they seem to be missing a lot that's going on because they are always sleeping. Awww, how cute. All three of them so close together. That hardly ever happens.

As most of you know, I don't like to post unless I have a picture to post as well, because pictures are my favorite. But, alas, no pictures this time. A few things have been happening....first, all of October was Pastor Appreciation month, which meant a meal for us every day!! I know, it's crazy but it's true. These people in our church are amazing, and they are good cooks, too. I just hope it starts rubbing off on me. I know Billy would appreciate it. ...second, our trash cans were stolen. I'm sure you have read on our first post how we don't always bring in our trash cans from the road right away. Well, someone had enough apparently, and took them away from us, perhaps so it wouldn't happen again. I just wish they would've confronted us about it-we would've changed, I swear.
hmm. what else has been happening...oh, we had Halloween, and we got to pass out candy to kids in our neighborhood. There were some pretty good costumes this year. Other than that we've just been busy with our normal activities.

So, this weekend was full of adventure as well! First we started our weekend with an awesome costume party celebrating the birthday of our awesome friend, Allyson!
A good time was had by all, of course. Whenever we get together it is fun. Second, we started our Saturday off with watching some cross country meets along with a soccer game. Everyone we knew did a great job! Then Billy's parents came in for the weekend for his birthday. It was great to have them. They even came to youth group and answered questions from the kids about their dating experience, since we are doing a series on dating. We did a round of the dating game again this year, and we'll do another round next week too. When we came home from youth group that night, Billy had a surprise waiting for him. The kids from the youth group beat Billy home, and had tepeed our house and blown up balloons and filled the inside of our house with them. Billy went to the neighbors house to ask them to describe the vehicles that had been there, and they said there were too many vehicles to describe. :) Well, they did a good job tepeeing. Hopefully it will never happen again. Happy Birthday Billy! Today Billy and I got to spend the whole day together, and then our friends took us out to dinner for the best burgers in town at Main Street Cafe. Here are some pics to help recap the weekend.

These are the words of the one time Philadelphia Flyers coach Fred Shero just before game six of the Stanley Cup Finals in 1974. What an application for christians today! Today is all we have. Let us live like it. By the way the Flyers did win that day, and to any hockey fan names like Bernie Parent, Dave "The Hammer" Shcultz, and Bobby Clarke are golden. Forever etched on a cup that is the highest honor in their sport. That year three words would send chills down any opponents spine...Broad Street Bullies. Who will remember us and by what name will we be called?

All that to say life can get pretty busy. It is important for us to relax and take some time alone with God. We can only win with God. And our hope is stored up ahead of us...forever.

I took 6 Jr. High Girls and my wife on a 7 Hr van ride...and came back SANE?!? But we had a great time and it was B-E-A-utiful. The camp is called Lake Ann Baptist Camp and it is in Lake Ann, MI.

3. The Bathroom

Not Sure if I really want to know what goes on in the "Special Activity Restroom" of A.I. Root Middle School.

Oh and My parents are coming in this weekend, please pray for my mom who is worried about leaving the guinea pig with the vet. She says he sounds like a "Mad Scientist."

Right. Well, we promise to keep up with this blog. I know we say this now, and we have said this before...but we really mean it this time.
I guess the first question you are asking yourself is "who are you?" Good question by the way. You should always know the type of people you are reading about.
We are Billy and Julie Mulligan, affectionately known to some as PB and J and to others as the morons who never mow their lawn, clean their garage, or bring their trash cans in from the street.
Anyway, we live in Medina, Ohio. If you don't know where that is, don't feel bad, we feel safer knowing you don't.
We have two cats and a dog. And that's the story of our life.
